Permanent Sheet Piling – Honeycombe Beach, Bournemouth, UK

Project Overview

Vertical excavations into the hillside were required to enable Barrat Homes to build a prestigious housing development overlooking the sea at Honeycombe beach in Bournemouth. To contain the retained earth behind the sheet piling earth anchors would be required to provide additional support.

Project Overview

Platipus anchors were installed using a large machine mounted hydraulic hammer, proof loaded to 190kN, and locked at working loads between from 120kN to 160kN. The anchoring provided lateral restraint to counteract overturning moments on the sheet piling. Finally, a facing wall was constructed to give the structure a more attractive finish.
