Project Overview

Development of this plot of land called for the demolition of an existing building and the construction of a new, three-story private residence terraced into the existing slope. This included hard landscaping to create an access road and driveway with a 35m long and 3m tall embankment, profiled at 50° sloping towards the property. To ensure the stability of the slope and facilitate revegetation, a High Performance Turf Reinforcement Mat (HPTRM) would be used alongside Platipus Percussion Driven Earth Anchors (PDEA®). Thus, ensuring the integrity of the slope and the aesthetic appearance once revegetation takes place.

Solution

Following vertical suitability tests behind the crest of the slope, an anchor scheme was devised using Platipus Stealth anchors with wire tendons. A total of 179 ground anchors were driven perpendicular to the slope face to a depth of 4m using a tracked excavator. Next, the anchors were tensioned and loadlocked at a working load of 13kN. This method ensures intimate contact between the geotextile and soil below, preventing washout of fines. With revegetation taking place through hydroseeding, the final result offers a safe and aesthetic finish on this residential development.
