Vantage Copse, Southampton, Hampshire – UK
Project Overview
In a recent incident at the entrance of the Latitude housing development by Bellway Homes, a 4.75m high slope experienced a significant slip. The event, triggered by heavy plant operation at the slope’s crest, demanded immediate attention and stabilisation. A comprehensive remediation strategy was devised and implemented in three distinct sections.
Solution
The core of the stabilisation involved the installation of forty Platipus S8, B4 and B8 anchors each equipped with threaded rods. These anchors were strategically positioned to ensure optimal slope stability. To combat potential drainage issues, Platipus Plati-Drains® were installed into the lower rows of the slope, serving the dual purpose of reducing pore water pressure and providing efficient drainage channels.
Following the anchor installation, a steel reinforcement mesh was applied across the slope’s surface. This mesh played a crucial role in distributing the loads generated by the anchors and satisfying the requirements of the Indemnified Design. The final phase of the remediation process involved the application of a cellular confinement system. This system was carefully draped over the slope and secured using the extended threaded bars from the anchors. The cells were then filled with topsoil, facilitating vegetation growth and resulting in a natural, aesthetically pleasing finish to the slope that blended with the surrounding environment.
