Project Overview

Our in-house Geotechnical team was commissioned to create a comprehensive design solution for a challenging 6m high, and 137m long cut slope at Edginswell Business Park. Originally envisioned as a 70o timber crib wall face slope, a value-engineered design was emphasised by Torbay Council, including seamless aesthetic integration with the planned car park at the slopes base. The scope required significant cutting and filling for enabling works, while being cost effective and minimising maintenance requirements. This prompted Platipus to introduce an alternative innovative design, requiring 550 Platipus Anchors across the height and length of the slope, driven at approximately 6m depth.

We proposed incorporating a 3m high 80o cut slope at the base, adorned with a stone mattress façade. While the upper slope would be completed with a 60o vegetated finish, achieved through hydroseeding and underlayment to facilitate growth. Combined, these conformed to cost and time saving requirements set by Torbay Council. Substitution of the timber crib wall with a stone filled mattress facade optimised space at the toe and expanded the ecological zone above. All these achievements were accomplished with a value-engineered framework and tight timeliness, professionally executed by Platipus Approved Installer Topbond PLC.
