Project Overview

Failure of this retaining wall required temporary propping and resulted in a full road closure whilst remedial solutions were considered. Platipus Anchors were specified to remediate the wall, some incorporating the unique Plati-Drain® to reduce hydrostatic pressure from behind the wall.

Solution

A typical permanent anchoring solution was proposed; percussively driving earth anchors through core holes in the wall. The anchors were driven to a depth of 8m, taking the anchor head well beyond the potential failure plane, before being loadlocked into position. A dimensioned cross section from the Council and a Platipus Anchor Suitability Test provided the information required, enabling Platipus Getechnical Engineers to complete a full Indemnified Design. The Plati-Drain® Anchor System was installed on the lower row to provide drainage through the wall and reduce hydrostatic pressure acting on the wall. The simplicity of the Platipus systems allowed speedy completion of the work by the Framework Contractor’s own workforce.
